You've found a buyer, but the journey has just begun. Shipping electronics requires more than just a standard envelope. Follow these steps to ensure your phone arrives in the same condition it left.
1. The Bubble Wrap Sandwich
Wrap the phone in at least two layers of small-cell bubble wrap. The goal is to ensure that if the box is dropped, the phone doesn't touch the sides.
2. Use a Box, Not an Envelope
Never ship a phone in a padded mailer. They offer zero protection against crushing forces. Use a small, sturdy cardboard box.
3. Fill the Voids
If the phone can rattle inside the box, it's not packed correctly. Use crumpled newspaper, packing peanuts, or more bubble wrap to fill all empty spaces.
4. Tape the "H" Pattern
Tape along the center seam of the box, and then tape along the side seams to create an "H" shape. This provides the most structural integrity.
5. Battery Safety
Lithium-ion batteries are considered "Dangerous Goods." Ensure the phone is powered OFF. You don't need a special label for a single phone, but it's good practice to ensure it's well-padded.
6. Insurance is Your Friend
Always use a shipping method with tracking and insurance. For a $500+ phone, the few extra dollars for insurance provide peace of mind if the carrier loses the package.
